Service Capacity is determined by the connected load for your service and is measured in kilo Volt Amperes (kVA). Your electrician or contractor can provide the size you need, or you can estimate service capacity by adding up the Volt Amperes for each connected load at your service. High demand appliances like electric ovens, water heaters, all electric clothes dryers, electric furnaces, electric baseboard heaters, HVAC heat pumps, and electric vehicle chargers are typically 240 Volts. Lower demand appliances like refrigerators, gas furnaces, washing machines and gas clothes dryers are typically 120 Volts. Amperes or Amps vary by the appliance and are shown on their nameplate or spec sheet. EEA's minimum new construction transformer size is 25 kVA and should be sufficient for an average residential service. Add an additional 10 kVA to the service capacity if you have or anticipate having an electric vehicle charger. Commercial services or homes with separate buildings or amenities like hot tubs and on demand electric water heaters should consult an electrician to make sure the proper size transformer is requested. Transformers only come in the service capacity sizes shown. Choose the service capacity that is equal to or greater than your kVA calculations or recommended by your electrician or contractor.

Estimator Tool Terms of Service:
This estimator tool is for our members’ convenience and is only intended to calculate an approximate cost for a new single phase electrical service to aid in initial decision making. Actual cost may differ from the estimator tool’s results. The estimator tool only uses basic information that you provide. Soil conditions, road crossings, route obstacles, easement issues, and other factors can affect costs and are not considered by this estimator. EEA does not perform any trenching. All trenching is paid for and coordinated by member. The member is required to secure all permits. This estimator tool does not include additional payment for cost sharing of line extensions in service before August 1, 2024. This estimator tool does include the $2,500 Standard Construction Allowance found in Policy 18 - Facilities Extension and Modification. EEA is no longer constructing new overhead lines in extreme or high fire danger areas. Consult the EEA Fire Danger Map to determine if you are allowed to request overhead service. I understand this estimate is non-binding on either party and that final design approval for any facility extension or modification lies solely with EEA.
