Youth Trips

E x p a n d

apply for a youth trip.

The Washington DC Youth Tour will start in Denver CO where you will spend a day learning about Colorado state government and our electric system. From Denver you will fly to DC to participate in an unforgettable experience that is sure to change your life! Electric cooperatives from across the country will send over 1,800 youth to the nation's capitol. You will meet new friends from across the country while enjoying days of planned activities and tours.

The Youth Leadership Camp is held at the Glen Eden Resort in Clark Colorado, near Steamboat Springs. You will make new friends from Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and Wyoming. Swimming, dancing, shopping, rafting and volleyball - all in one trip. You will learn about yourself and build new leadership skills that you will use the rest of your life.

2023 Youth Tour Winner

Student must have proof of full COVID vaccine if selected for Washington DC Youth Tour. If selected for Youth Leadership Camp, student will be required to show a negative COVID test taken three days or less before camp begins or proof of vaccine.

Application deadline is December 12, 2022.

Application Requirements

Youth Trip Applications are accepted beginning on September 1st each year.  

Students selected for this program will be introduced to the electric cooperative network. Participants come away with a better understanding of the state and national governments, local electric cooperatives, the Colorado Rural Electric Association, Tri-State Generation & Transmission Association, Inc., and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

Consideration is given to a student's interest in the electric cooperative, character, personal goals, and desire to obtain leadership skills without regard to race, creed, color, sex, or religious beliefs. Make sure that all items are completed on your application, as incomplete applications are not accepted.  

Participation requirements:

  • Age Requirement - Student must be enrolled as a high school junior and 16 years of age by January 1st or currently hold the status equivalent to junior in home-based schools or academies at the application deadline.
  • Proof of Membership - Applicant's parents or legal guardians must have an active residential or business account with EEA. A copy of your EEA bill statement must accompany the application for verification of service.
  • Content - Applicant must submit a typed paragraph about him or herself and their desire to participate in this program. Entries will be judged on sincerity of content and any other optional creative medium content.
  • Selection - Judging and selection will be made by a committee composed of board members, administration, and selected staff members of EEA. If an applicant is an immediate family member of a committee member, the committee member will abstain from participating in that year's selection.

To be considered in 2023, your completed application must be completed on our website or paper application returned to EEA's office at 801 N. Broadway, P. O. Box K, Cortez, Colorado, 81321, no later than 5:30 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2022.  Applications will be accepted starting September 1st.  

Dates for the NRECA Washington DC Youth Tour is June 12 to 18, 2023.

Dates for the CEEI Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp in Steamboat Springs, CO is July 15 to 20, 2023.
